The developers of Valheim are gearing up to launch its latest update, the bog witch update. With it promises to bring many changes including new recipes, build pieces, tools and more!
The Bog Witch
The Bog Witch herself is going to be setting up shop in the creepy biome of the swamp. She will be selling items to players to help them on their journey.
New items
The Bog Witch is selling new items which include things like potions, spices, tools, material and crafting recipes.
Throughout her home she has decorations including candles, bottles etc. I hope we will be able to buy some of these decorations from her. The candles look awesome and i think they would be a great decoration for when we build our homes in ther deep north. It would be even cooler if they would be an alternative form of heat.
It’s also been mentioned that she may be selling a “love potion”, I’m not sure how this will be used ingame but it is definetly something to look forward too.
New Tools
New tools have also been mentioned, including a new scythe and possibly a spade to make farming a bit more quicker.
I think this will be a great addition. One thing ove struggled with is getting my crops in quickly while also getting the spacing right. I think it would be really cool if this tool automatically spaces out the crops for you.
Feasts
Feasts are also coming to valheim, enabling players to reuse some of their old foods from previous biones that are taking up space in their precious storage.
Its possible there could be as many as eight feasts, including swamp dwellers delight, plains pie picnic and mushrooms galore a la mistlands.
I think the idea of reusing old materials and making them useful is a great idea. Perhaps taking this concept further in future updates would improve QOL too. Maybe the ability to upgrade build pieces without having to break them would be great. Being able to update a wall new newer build pieces from the later biomes without risking collapsing your house.
This also comes with new workstations including the food preperation table and mead ketill. These new stations should help to consolidate some of the many recipes that are starting to convolute the crafting recipe screen.
Skills
New skills are also making there way to valheim. Increasing your cooking skill will shorten crafting time while also potentially opening up new recipes with additional bonuses.
Increasing your farming skill is said to offer an increase in crops yielded and make harvesting faster.
Other QOL Changes Coming
There are also more QOL changes on the way which is said to include choosing how much of an item you want to craft e.g. 5x, 10x etc.
This is said to include foods, weapons, ammo etc.
The Deep North
This is the biome i’ve been looking forward to the most. the idea of building a cozy cabin in the hills of the frosty deep north, yes please!
This biome has been stated to be a bit more relaxed than the ashlands while still having a good degree of challenge. One of the developers, grimcore mentioned in an interview of a 1.1 release. whether this means the team plan to carry out more content updates after the deep north remains to be seen.
One of the developers, Johnathan, has mentioned ahcievements aswell. pairing achievements with potential rewards woulds be really cool. Maybe you can unlock new decorations, recipes, armour, weapons etc if you’re able to get these achievements.
Summary
Valheim is getting very close to a full new release now, I would predict we will see 1.0 somewhere mid to end of 2025. The bog witch update seems like a rreally good piece of content to tie players over until then. I will definetly be jumping back into valheim and doing a fresh run.
